Veterinary Referrals
North Western Vet Physio works alongside veterinary surgeons to provide physiotherapy and rehabilitation as part of your animal's wider care.
A veterinary referral or consent is required to comply with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1996 before treatment. This ensures that your physiotherapy programme is based on your animal's veterinary diagnosis and that everyone involved in their care is working towards the same goals.

How does the referral process work?
Your veterinary surgeon can provide a referral directly to North Western Vet Physio.
Alternatively, if you have spoken to us about physiotherapy and would like us to contact your vet, we can help facilitate the referral process.
Once consent has been received, we can arrange an assessment and discuss the most appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plan for your animal.
Why is veterinary collaboration important?
Physiotherapy works best when it forms part of a coordinated approach to your animal's health.
We can communicate with your veterinary surgeon and other professionals involved in your animal's care where appropriate, helping ensure treatment and rehabilitation remain aligned with their diagnosis and overall management plan.
As your animal progresses, their physiotherapy programme may change.
Where appropriate, we can provide updates and reports to your veterinary team, helping maintain continuity of care throughout the rehabilitation process.
If you are unsure whether your dog or horse needs a veterinary referral, please contact us and we can explain the process.
