Equine Home Exercise & Rehabilitation

Supporting your horse between appointments.

A successful rehabilitation programme doesn't stop when your horse leaves their physiotherapy appointment.

Targeted exercises completed at home can play an important role in improving strength, mobility, coordination and overall physical function.

At North Western Vet Physio, we create individual exercise programmes based on your horse's assessment, condition and rehabilitation goals.

Exercises may include:

  • In-hand pole work

  • Ridden pole work

  • Baited stretches

  • Backing up

  • Hill work

  • Long-reining

  • Controlled transitions

  • Mobility exercises

  • Strengthening exercises

  • Progressive return-to-work programmes

Exercises are demonstrated during your appointment, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and make sure you are confident carrying them out.

Rehabilitation that progresses with your horse

Your horse's exercise programme will change as they progress.

We regularly reassess their movement and physical condition and can adapt exercises to provide an appropriate level of challenge as they become stronger.

For horses recovering from injury, progression is carefully considered alongside veterinary advice and any exercise restrictions that have been put in place.

Practical programmes for real life

We understand that every owner, yard and horse has different facilities and routines.

Where possible, exercises are selected to be practical and achievable within your normal routine, helping you incorporate rehabilitation into your horse's everyday care.

The goal is to make rehabilitation clear, manageable and meaningful for both you and your horse.
